Worth to Watch

Observation #4: Attraction usually comes together with effort and time put into it
Looking at some movies that hit high box office record, they are one thing -special/outstanding. Beside that, they are produced with hard work. Time and money are invested into the movie. Looking at Titanic (1997), the film shakes and amazes the world. The movie brings big profits. It's because it is special. It is special because hard work, time and money are expense into it. A fined touched movie can be seen obviously, and audiences know that what movie is worth to pay to watch. Today, Hollywood is involving the technology in their film. They are moving, to a certain extend, they are far ahead of us. Hence, their efforts in production are not only in scripting, lighting, and acting, but also camera works, 3D animation, music, sound effects, and intelligent brains.

Experience It

Observation #3: Big hall and small hall are different significantly
Watching a same movie in two different size of hall, will get no same experience. Small hall does give satisfaction to audience in term of screen size and sound system. It is average. No complain can be found. However, the big hall gives full impact. Screen is bigger, and the sound is superb. One "bang" sound is not just a simple one, but "pbbhhaannggg ..." It affects the watching mood and feeling. When it is time to be exciting, big hall gives you more more exciting with the better sound quality. The dynamic of the sound can be clearly heard. Every sound heard clearly no matter the source is loud or soft, all can be heard in clear. For example, dialogue is loud, the ambient sound -wind is slightly softer, the background music stringing more soft. The contrast of sound is heard.

The Fourth World

My brother taught me "Know your audience". As a film-maker (hoping to be), I have learned my lesson, and begin to get near to the "world" reality. So, I go to work part time in a cinema, in one big shopping complex.

Today was my first day training. My job was very simple -tear tickets. In the mean time, I observed few things.

Observation #1: There is a tendency for a movie watched by a category of people.
Categories vary in many ways. Some are children, some are adventurous people, some are well-educated. Audiences usually come in pair or group. Couple comes to "pak-tor", while the group can be youth, students or family. Group audience is significant to determine the tendency. For example, Disney has done a very good job. Hot movie, Princess and the Frog is showing today. Mostly children go for this show. Some children even come by their own, which means they watch without adult's supervision. Hence, here shows the children is the Princess and the Frog's targeted audience. So, I can say that a good movie has a strong targeted audience.

Observation #2: The audiences are full with expectation while going to a movie.
Audiences who have bought their tickets, generally, they come with light footstep. Hardly seeing them come with a "long" face or a burdened face. Those who come in group were having talking and laughter while walking to the hall room. After they were checked the tickets, they were like having a thought of "faster, faster ...", they walked happily to the hall. From their expression, and my personal experience, they were like knowing the movie title, but do not know the movie content, and expect to know something in later. This is probably why they are coming to the cinema. Despite that they come for social activities, they are unsure the answer of what they are going to know, though they have a rough idea of what the movie is about. Cinema is a place for social activities, but the movies are not. Watching a movie is a choice of activities in socializing. Therefore, the audiences have choice to select a movie, and after choosing, they have expectation for something to know that they are going to know, while they have not know yet.

PC Fair / Girls Fair ?

Ah, just came back from PC fair. Since the trend of PC fair is not only about gadget, but girls as well, so here I follow. This shows that I'm not the only one posting about girls. LOL.

Before I went to the fair, I read some other comments/blog about the current fair. I could see there was more people employed to make it happened -models, promoters, etc. They said got a lot of leng lui. Photographers went there took beautiful pictures. They had cos-play characters too. Alienware made a brilliant idea by taking photograph of potential customer and post the pic to Facebook -good new strategy. These were what I saw from the Internet.

I don't know. I went there and realised ... ah ... Some models are really beautiful. I've been to few hall. I personally think that more female customers are more "leng" (come on, I'm saying in general opinion). The customers are simple and nice. What I dislike is the female promoter with heavy make-up, came with a smiley face, giving me a brochure, hinting "please buy this." I'm not gonna buy that.

They are likely used/payed by company to asked me dig out my pocket to buy something I do not need. Ha ha.
